ARTIST BIO

Damon Kowarsky studied printmaking at Victorian College of the Arts and Glasgow School of Art, and Advanced Figure Drawing with Godwin Bradbeer at RMIT.

 Since graduating he has travelled extensively in South Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Architecture and the colours of earth and sky inspire much of his work.

 Kowarsky is the recipient of numerous prizes and awards including a Toyota Community Spirit Artist Travel Award, Australian Print Workshop Collie Print Trust Emerging Victorian Printmakers Scholarship, Creative Victoria New Works Grant and Australia Council Asia-Australia Creative Partnerships Grant. He has worked as a scientific, courtroom, and archaeological illustrator, including assisting on a dig for the Dakhleh Oasis Project Egypt in 2002.

 In 2007 he taught drawing at Beaconhouse National University Lahore and studied miniature painting under Murad Mumtaz and Mahreen Zuberi. In 2010, 2014, and 2017 he taught printmaking at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture Karachi.

 Kowarsky exhibits regularly in Australia and abroad, with solo exhibitions in cities including Melbourne, Hong Kong, New York, Philadelphia, Wellington, Cairo, Damascus, Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.

 In 2018 Warrnambool Art Gallery undertook a substantial survey exhibition of Kowarsky's prints, paintings and drawings. In 2019 he participated in the 44th Art Colony Studenica in a 12th Century monastery in the Serbian mountains. He is currently working on a series of etchings exploring the delicate balance between the man made and natural worlds.
